The two-volume title Broken Bits of Byzantium is a rare book also published in French under the title Restes de la reine des villes. It forms one of the earliest records of Byzantine artifacts recovered in Istanbul; most of these have now been lost.
The binding was done by Charles George Curtis and his sister Mary Adelaide, who came to Istanbul from England circa 1856.
